10 lessons in this unit
Children around the world
Learn that children live in many countries and places, find examples on a world map, describe in respectful, non-stereotyped ways how children live (homes, schools, play, food), and appreciate the variety of children’s lives.
Lesson 2Similarities in children’s lives
Identify what children everywhere share (needs, feelings, play, family, learning, hopes and rights), give examples from stories and pictures, and explain that similarities help us understand and respect each other.
Lesson 3Differences in daily routines
Compare daily routines of children in different places (waking, travel to school, meals, chores, play, bedtime), explain that differences come from place, weather, work, culture and family, and treat differences with curiosity and respect.
Lesson 4Communication across distances
Explain how people communicate across distances (letters, phone calls, video calls, email, radio), describe how messages travel and why distance matters less now, practise writing a kind letter to a pen-pal class (through the teacher), and apply safety rules.
Lesson 5Caring for shared resources
Explain that people everywhere share Earth’s resources (air, water, soil, forests, oceans, energy), explain why they must be shared fairly and used carefully, describe renewable and non-renewable resources in simple terms, and name actions to protect shared resources.
Lesson 6Water conservation
Explain why clean water is precious (needed by all living things, limited fresh water, many people lack safe water), identify everyday ways to save water, describe sources of water (rain, rivers, wells, taps), and make a simple water-saving pledge.
Lesson 7Waste reduction
Explain what waste is and how too much waste harms people, animals and places, use the three Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) with examples, sort simple waste into groups with adult guidance, and plan a safe class waste-reduction action.
Lesson 8Helping communities
Describe how people help communities near and far (volunteering, donating, fundraising, community projects, aid organisations), explain why helping others matters, recognise that help should respect people’s dignity, and plan a small, safe act of kindness.
Lesson 9Global friendship
Explain what friendship across countries looks like (kind words, respect, learning, shared fun, helping), describe ways to build friendship safely (class link-ups, shared projects, stories, songs), recognise common values of kindness and fairness, and plan a friendship activity.
Lesson 10Collaborative action project
Plan and carry out a safe, small class action project that cares for the environment or helps a community (clean-up with gloves, tree planting, water-saving campaign, book drive), working together with roles, and evaluate its effects and what was learned across the year.
