What is a family?
Learn that a family is a group of people who care for each other, name family members, understand that families can be big or small, and draw a simple picture of a family.
Lesson 2Different family structures
Learn that families are made in many ways (parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings, step-family, foster or adoptive families, carers), that love and care matter more than the shape, and that we respect every family.
Lesson 3Family members and caregivers
Name family relationship words (mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, cousin), say how each person helps, and thank caregivers.
Lesson 4Family roles
Learn that family members have roles (provide, cook, clean, teach, protect, play), that roles can be shared and change, and that children also have roles.
Lesson 5Helping at home
Learn how children can help at home safely (tidying, setting the table, caring for plants and little ones with an adult, putting away toys), why helping matters, and how to ask before using things.
Lesson 6Family routines
Learn that a routine is a set of things we do in the same order each day, describe morning, afternoon and evening routines, use the words before and after, and see how routines help families.
Lesson 7Family traditions
Learn that a tradition is something a family does again and again, such as a meal, story, song, festival or greeting, name some traditions, and respect that traditions differ.
Lesson 8Respect and cooperation
Learn that cooperation means working together, show respect and cooperation at home through sharing, listening, taking turns and helping, and solve a small family problem calmly.
Lesson 9Caring for one another
Learn how family members care for each other (food, shelter, comfort, help when ill, kind words), how children can show care, and how to notice when someone needs care.
Lesson 10Family history introduction
Learn that every family has a history, that we can find out about it by asking older relatives and looking at photos and objects, ask simple questions, and share what we learn.
