Lesson 2Leadership
Explain what a leader is, describe qualities of good leaders (fairness, honesty, listening, responsibility, service), compare kinds of leaders in a community (elders, chiefs, teachers, pupil leaders, religious leaders, elected leaders), and explain how leaders are chosen and held to account.
Lesson 3Local authorities
Describe local authorities in Sierra Leone (local councils led by mayors and council chairpersons, ward councillors, chiefdom authorities), explain their roles in services such as markets, waste, roads and planning, understand how citizens take part (ward meetings, voting), and respect that local government serves all residents.
Lesson 4Community rules
Explain why communities have rules and laws, distinguish rules, customs and laws, explain how rules are made and changed, discuss fairness and consequences, and write fair class and community rules that protect safety and rights.
Lesson 5Public services
Identify public services (water, electricity, roads, schools, health care, police, fire service, waste collection), explain who pays for them (taxes, fees) and who provides them, understand why they must be fair and reliable, and describe how citizens protect them.
Lesson 6Community decision-making
Describe ways communities make decisions (consensus, voting, elders’ councils, public meetings), compare their strengths, explain why listening to all voices and weighing evidence matter, and practise a fair class decision.
Lesson 7Responsible citizenship

Lesson 8Community participation
Explain ways children and adults take part in community life (clean-ups, school councils, clubs, festivals, voting for adults, volunteering), explain benefits of participation, identify barriers (time, access, fear of speaking) and ways to include everyone, and plan a safe participation activity.
Lesson 9Peaceful conflict resolution
Explain what conflict is and why it happens, describe peaceful ways to resolve it (calm down, listen, speak with I-statements, find shared solutions, ask a trusted adult or mediator), practise role plays, and reflect on peace in families, schools and communities, including Sierra Leone’s experience of peacebuilding in age-appropriate terms.
Lesson 10Community improvement proposal
Plan and present a simple, safe community improvement proposal: identify a need with evidence, propose a solution, consider cost, people and fairness, list steps and roles, anticipate problems, and present respectfully to a teacher or invited local leader.
